Introducing Independent We Stand’s New Advocacy Center

by Bill Brunelle, Director, Independent We Stand
(STIHL is proud to be the founding sponsor of Independent We Stand. We are excited to share the
latest news on additional resources for independent local buinsesses.)

With continued support from STIHL Inc., Independent We Stand  is making it easier than ever for small business owners to develop a big voice in Washington.  The new advocacy center on IndependentWeStand.org keeps small business owners and consumers informed about government activities, and provides helpful resources for you to interact with powerful public officials.

We believe that small businesses shouldn’t feel helpless in the wake of government programs and policy changes.  Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy and political decision-making – at all levels of government – affects them in a big way.  The challenge is knowing how to interpret government policies or compete with the expensive lobbying efforts of multinational corporations.  The goal of Independent We Stand’s advocacy center is to empower small businesses and their customers making a real impact on their community.

The Independent We Stand advocacy center is filled with all kinds of tools and resources relating to the political process.  The center allows you to find your elected officials by city, state, and issue, so that you can determine the right person to contact regarding your issue or concern.  The site also makes it easy for users to write to those legislators in support of the ‘buy local’ movement and other small business issues.  The advocacy center provides visitors with information about upcoming elections, voter registration policies, and absentee voting in different states.  Finally, the center provides up-to-date information about different bills, laws, and political issues relevant to small businesses and consumers, as well as the contact information for local news outlets across the country, giving small business owners the tools they need to stay informed and speak publicly about their political interests.

Independent We Stand is committed to spreading the ‘buy local’ movement and providing local business owners with the support and resources they need to succeed. The advocacy center is the newest and sharpest tool in Independent We Stand’s shed, and we believe that it is going to be an important asset for small business owners and consumers to voice their opinions in government.  We encourage everyone to become powerful advocates for the ‘buy local’ movement – both in their communities and in Washington.
